Course description:

The SCARA Training Cell with PLC, HMI & IIoT course is a hands-on, application-driven program designed to equip learners with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in industrial automation and robotics. This course integrates key Industry 4.0 technologies such as SCARA robots, Siemens PLCs, Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI), IO-Link communication, sensors, actuators, and IIoT systems.

Learners will explore the entire automation workflow—starting from electrical wiring and control system fundamentals, progressing through PLC and HMI programming, and advancing to robot integration, sensor interfacing, system communication, and smart sorting applications. Real-time simulations and practical sessions ensure in-depth understanding and confidence in working with automation hardware and software.

By the end of the course, participants will be capable of designing, programming, integrating, and troubleshooting a fully functional SCARA-based industrial automation cell.

What is in this course?

Understand the backbone of any automation system—electrical wiring and control. Learn about cable types, wiring symbols, power sources, and the complete electrical layout of the SCARA training cell. Build a strong foundation for handling real-world control panels and automation setups.

Master PLCs starting from their architecture and programming basics. Learn to program using Ladder Logic, understand I/O configurations, and get hands-on with Siemens S7-1200 and TIA Portal. Use PLCSIM to simulate programs, test logic, and validate systems virtually before deployment.

Explore the role of HMIs in automation. Create interactive HMI screens, link with PLCs, and design real-time dashboards. Learn how operators interact with machines through intuitive and responsive interfaces.

Bring automation to life by integrating PLCs with HMIs. Map PLC inputs/outputs to HMI elements, exchange real-time data, and develop small projects that control and monitor devices via touchscreens.

Delve into SCARA robot operations, models, and components. Learn to program using teach pendants and RT ToolBox3 software. Understand coordinate systems, modes of operation, and create basic pick-and-place routines with offline simulations.

Learn about industrial networking protocols like PROFINET and Ethernet/IP, and explore IO-Link as the gateway to smart sensors and actuators. Understand how IODD and GSDML files enable seamless integration with PLCs and HMIs.

Get hands-on with a wide range of sensors—proximity, color, analog, reed switches—and integrate them into the automation system. Understand pneumatic concepts and control solenoid valves and cylinders from the PLC for real-time motion control.

Learn how to synchronize robot actions with PLC logic and display system status on HMIs. Understand robot-PLC communication protocols and develop integrated applications where all components work together seamlessly.

Build intelligent systems using color sensors and load cells. Perform color-based sorting and weight-based inspection using the SCARA robot. Calibrate sensors, create custom sorting logic, and automate decision-making based on sensor input.

Ensure long-term system reliability with backup and restoration techniques for PLCs, HMIs, and robots. Learn structured troubleshooting for electrical systems, software faults, sensor errors, and actuator malfunctions—a must-have skill for real-world automation engineers.
